With Apple HomeKit and a compatible Arlo device, you can use voice commands to access and control multiple Arlo devices from one place. What you need
You must be on the same WiFi network as your Arlo SmartHub or Base Station when you first connect Arlo to HomeKit. After your Arlo device is added to HomeKit, you must have an Apple home hub to access your Arlo devices on HomeKit when outside your local network. You need the following to use Arlo with Apple HomeKit:
- One of the following compatible devices:
- Arlo Ultra 2
- Arlo Ultra
- Arlo Pro 4
- Arlo Pro 3
- Arlo Pro 3 Floodlight Camera
- Arlo Pro 2
- Arlo Pro
- Arlo Essential Camera
- Arlo Essential Spotlight Camera
- Arlo Essential XL Spotlight Camera
- Arlo Essential Video Doorbell (Wired)
- The Apple Home app
- The Arlo app
- An Arlo Base Station (VMB5000, VMB4540, VMB4500, or VMB4000)
Note: To use HomeKit, your Arlo device must be connected to an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station. You can’t use HomeKit with your Arlo device if the device is connected directly to a WiFi router.
Connect Arlo to the Apple Home App
You can connect your Arlo device to the Apple Home app in two ways:
- With a HomeKit setup code on the Base Station or device.
- Without a HomeKit setup code.
To set up an Arlo device with a setup code:
- Set up your Arlo device and Base Station with the Arlo app.
- Launch the Apple Home app.
- Tap + > Add Accessory.
- Scan the HomeKit setup code on your Base Station, device, or quick start guide.
- Follow the setup flow to name devices and place them in HomeKit rooms.
Your devices are ready to use with HomeKit.
To setup an Arlo device without a setup code:
- Launch the Arlo app on your Apple device.
- Tap Settings > My Devices.
- Select an Arlo Base Station.
- Tap HomeKit.
- Select the Base Station you want to add to HomeKit.
- Select a Home or tap Add New Home.
If you don’t have a Home set up in the Arlo app, you are directed to create a Home. - Select a Room or tap Add a New Room.
If you don’t have a Room set up in the Arlo app, you are directed to create a Room. - Tap Continue to add devices to HomeKit to add devices or additional Base Stations.
- Continue through the setup flows to confirm the name and room placement for each device.
Note: The name that you give each device is used for Siri commands. Choose a unique name that is easy to remember and pronounce. - Confirm the name of the device.
- Tap Skip, or rename any other devices as needed.
- Tap Finish.
Your devices are ready to use with HomeKit.
How do I set up a new Arlo Baby camera with HomeKit?
These instructions apply to new cameras that are not connected to an Arlo account. If you are already using your Arlo Baby camera, see How do I connect my Arlo Baby camera to the Apple Home app on my iOS device?.
To set up your Arlo Baby camera using an iOS device and Apple HomeKit:
- If you are new to Arlo, download the Arlo app from the Apple App Store by searching for “Arlo”.
- Launch the Arlo app and tap New to Arlo if you are a new customer or log in and tap Add Device if you already have an Arlo account.
- Tap Arlo Baby and acknowledge the warning message.
- Wait up to two minutes for Arlo to discover your Arlo Baby camera.
- If Arlo can’t discover your camera, follow these troubleshooting steps:
- Make sure that the LED on the camera is blinking amber.
If the light is not blinking amber, the camera might be set up already. To connect an existing Arlo Baby camera with the Apple Home app, see How do I connect my Arlo Baby camera to the Apple Home app on my iOS device?. - Try the QR code method by tapping Set Up with QR Code at the bottom of the screen and following the on-screen instructions.
- Make sure that the LED on the camera is blinking amber.
- After Arlo discovers your camera, tap Next.
- Select your WiFi network from the list and tap Next.
- Select your time zone and tap Continue.
- Give your camera a name.
If you would like to use the camera with Apple’s “Hey Siri” voice control feature, make sure that the camera’s name is easy to pronounce and does not sound like the names of any other devices that you added to the Home app. - Tap Continue.
- Tap Yes, Add It Now to add the camera to HomeKit.
- Select an existing Home from the list or create a new one by tapping Add Home.
- Tap Next.
- Locate the HomeKit code for your camera on the back of your Arlo Baby’s Quick Start Guide or on the base of Arlo Baby.
For more information, see Where can I find the HomeKit code for my Arlo Baby camera?. - Scan the HomeKit code on the back of the Quick Start Guide or type the HomeKit code from the camera label.
- Assign the camera to a room within the Home app, or create a new room to place it in.
- Tap Done.
Your camera is now registered with Arlo and added to your Home app.
